Hmm.
If i was the kid, my parent would have effectively severed all ties to possible love/affection felt mutually between us. They would have gained a life long enemy, and most definitely would eventually, if not immediately regret it. While the girl was disrespectful, and acted unfairly, so did the father. This will only lead her to act MORE unfairly, and so on and so on. It's a spiral that may never be stopped. The father should have been adult enough to realize that what the girl is going through seems hard to her. What does she have to compare her life experiences to? All he had to do was put into perspective how much responsibility she actually has, compared to him at this age.
>She is right in her mind, because in her mind, she is being treated unfairly >He is right in his mind, because in his mind, the girl, his child, was acting out of line
He effectively destroyed the possibility of understanding, because he was not able to see things from her perspective. They are both blinded by their perceptions of what is right.
TL;DR: The parent and child will probably never get along

Any 16 year old who is dumb enough to think that she should get paid for chores deserved to be ranted at like this, just saying. Also, who cares if she can't stand her father, he's just trying to be a good parent and teach her respect which is a quality that barely anyone has these days. If the father was beating the daughter, that would be pure shit and not ok, but the father only shot the laptop. I don't see anything wrong with taking action. Although I myself would have donated the laptop or taken it for my own uses.

Although it is naive of her to demand pay for simple household chores, allowance is not an uncommon thing. All she did was express her opinion on a certain matter. Basically, we are all young, we all don't have perfect understandings of responsibility, or anything really. Taking away her computer privileges for THREE FUCKING YEARS Dalton. Then posting on her facebook wall how much of a fuckup he thinks she did. That's way too fucking overboard. I would much rather take a severe asswhooping than have my computer taken away for 3 months. Much less 3 years. Then, tack on the video posted to my facebook wall? Fuck that.

What were his true intentions? All i see is an asshurt faggot who can't take shit from a 15 year old girl.
What a big fat pussy.
But lets say his intentions were pure. Lets say everything did was in the best interests of his daughter. Do you really think she learned respect? Think about it. All she learned, I imagine, was how to cry hard, and how her feelings/thoughts are bad to express. She isn't looking from his standpoint. She doesn't see the wrong in what she did. You have to realize her perspective, not just his. She's a fragile, unstable teenage girl. All you see, all the father sees, is a bitch acting out of place.

First of all, are you fucking kidding me?
If the father beat her, the internet would be outraged, and it seems like you would be, also. But seriously? The emotional troubles he is causing her have the potential to be EXTREMELY more detrimental than ANY amount of belts-to-the-ass could do (well, a couple hundred+ is getting there). What he did, from her perspective, is just like physically abusing her. The fact of the matter is, she's being punished, and she honestly thinks its only because she shared her thoughts/feelings. In her head, she didn't do anything wrong, and she's being punished. Severely punished, in my opinion.
The equivalent of this to your life would be something like..
>Your dad asks you to put your laundry in the laundry room >You say 'in a bit' or flat out 'later, not now' or just fucking 'no' >He then goes into your room, shoots the shit out of your computer, fires you from your job, stops giving you money, tells you to get your lazy ass up and apply for a job, and that you owe him money. Oh. And you can't use a computer for another 3 years. Oh. And he posts a video on your facebook wall basically saying how much of a fuck-up you are. >When you are allowed to use a computer again, you have to buy it yourself.
In your head, you didn't do anything wrong. In his head, you are being 'disrespectful', and deserve punishment.
Obviously my example was exaggerated, but that's how she sees things.

I'm seeing the perspective you're thinking from, I guess it's just because I'm not affected by anything that my father says / said that I feel the way I do about the situation.

Taking away a laptop for three years isn't severe... I'm sure she can still use the family computer. If she can't use her privacy without disrespecting her parents, she doesn't deserve the privilege. Really, all she lost was her privacy online, which she isn't legally obligated to until she moves out of her parents' house.
plus guns are cool.

I think their both stupid and way too prideful. Dumb teenage girl decides to whine on her facebook wall, which shouldn't be that surprising, she would just whine to her friends if she didn't have facebook. Dumb asshole dad is all like "instead of having a talk and TRYING to reach a formal understanding of what both sides feel, imma shoot her laptop LOLOLOLOL".
TL;DR i hate both of them

If you remember from the video he said that his daughter already did something like this as well and he had a talk like that with her, it obviously wasn't effective.

We debated this in civics today cuz it was on tv and we like wasting time. Majority went to the daughter but just barely, and the teacher also sided with the daughter in saying that the father was stooping to her level too much or something. So yep

^honestly, the fact that youre in high school puts some bias toward her side.
Not that that's a bad thing, but its interesting to see the "facebook generation" argue against the parents.
So my question is:
Is this just the rebellious attitude seen in every generation or is it a cry against privacy?
IMO, one doesn't gain true privacy until they are truly independent of their parents.
I hope you'd bring that point up in class and see what others say in rebuttal.
